A Truly Unique Opportunity for Members of Action on Smoking and Health (ASH)

Members of Action on Smoking and Health have a unique opportunity to attend an historic world conference on smoking.

There are still a few places left at the invitation-only Fifth World Conference on Nonsmokers' Rights which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, in Washington, DC, at the George Washington University Law School. [SEE BELOW]

So, if you are a current member of ASH and live near
Washington, DC, or will be visiting this area at that time, an invitation to this remarkable world conference can be yours for the asking.  Just send an email to:   info@nosmokingcontest.org

Since invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis, ASH members are urged to apply at their earliest possible opportunity.  To see why you should attend -- and participate in -- this unique conference, please see below.

Please note that the $1000 travel grants have been exhausted.  However, $100 grants are still available to cover some costs.

National Center for Nonsmokers' Rights and Law Professor John Banzhaf

     ● The Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities and its Optional Protocol, an even newer international treaty

THIS IS AN INVITATION-ONLY CONFERENCE, AND INVITATIONS WILL BE EXTENDED TO *:

A. Those who submitted 1000-word written proposals to protect nonsmokers' rights, and will be presenting their proposal at the Conference
B. Judges, outside speakers, antismoking attorneys and other activists, and honored guests
C. Representatives from antismoking organizations in foreign countries
D. Other selected guests
* Admission may be limited by the number of seats available

TO APPLY FOR AN INVITATION -- AND FOR A $1000 TRAVEL GRANT -- TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE:

1. Please send an email to
info@nosmokingcontest.org briefly describing your work and interest in protecting nonsmokers' rights, and, if appropriate, any organizations with which you have worked in the antismoking, tobacco control, and/or the nonsmokers' rights areas.  Preference will be given to those who have actually achieved results protecting nonsmokers, as compared to other antismoking and/or tobacco-control efforts (e.g., cigarette advertising, health warnings, cessation, smuggling, etc.)

2. If you would like to be eligible for a special $3000 prize for the best presentation at the Fifth World Conference on Nonsmokers' Rights of a new proposal for protecting and/or otherwise advancing nonsmokers' rights,  please include in your email (and NOT as an attachment in Word, WordPerfect, or some other language) a 1000-word summary of your idea or proposal.  Preference in extending invitations to attend the Conference, and in awarding $1000 travel grants, will be given to those who submit such proposals, although requests for invitations (and related travel grants) without a proposal will be considered.

3. The deadline for submitting a proposal to be presented at the Conference and for a special $3000 prize, and for submitting a request for an invitation (and a $1000 travel grant, even without a specific proposal to be presented), HAS BEEN EXTENDED until May 16th because of delays in obtaining funding for the conference.
BUT, like rolling admissions at universities and some other conferences, many travel grant awards will be made prior to that time, so EARLY SUBMISSIONS ARE VERY STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MAY SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR AN INVITATION (AND TO RECEIVE A $1000 TRAVEL GRANT) NOW, AND SUBSEQUENTLY SUBMIT A 1000-WORD SUMMARY OF A PROPOSAL (TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE ADDITIONAL $3000 PRIZE).

PLEASE APPLY EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.  REMEMBER, YOU CAN APPLY:
to attend the Conference (with a travel grant) simply by sending an email briefly describing yourself and your interests and accomplishments
to also present a proposal, include in addition a 1000-word summary of your proposal to protect nonsmokers' rights
apply now to attend the Conference, and send your 1000-word proposal in a later email
send your email to  info@nosmokingcontest.org
All emails sent to this address will be acknowledged by return email.
If you do not receive an acknowledgment, please call: (202) 223-8308.
